Illustrators Based in Barna

this month with Damien Filliatre

NAME: DAMIEN FILLIATRE aka ESTOCAFICH
WEB: misma.free.fr
HOMETOWN: TOULOUSE
IN BARCELONA SINCE: JUNE ’09

What’s your favorite gallery in the city?
Duduá on Rossic, 6, in Borne.

Give us three illustrators in Barcelona whose work you dig.
Ed (mi-bulin.blogspot.com), Maxi Luchini (maxiluchini. blogspot.com), Didixtra (didixtra.blogspot.com) who I worked with on the Ilustation festival (ilustation.com).

What animal would your pen be?
A sacred Indian cow. My Rotring pen is everything to me!

What do you do when you have illustrator block?
I call my brother: he is the only one who can comfort me...

If your illustrations were music what band would they sound like?
The Rita Mitsouko, a freaky french duo. Their music is creative, energic and very original, mixing new wave with punk, rock, and jazz. I like that they don’t take themselves very seriously.

What do you do when you cannot sleep?
I sleep like a baby – always.

Do you sit inside looking out or outside looking in?
Inside looking inside.

France is liberté, egalité et...
...bande dessinée!

What would you do with your last five euros?
A last “clara” before a last movie at the Filmoteca.

What’s the last embarrassing thing you did?
Being really drunk and vomiting all over my room...

If you could throw a pie in the face of any politician, who would it be?
Nicolas Sarkozy, without hesitation!

What was the last movie that was so bad that you couldn’t finish it?
Anna, directed by Pierre Koralnik... even if the songs of Serge Gainsbourg are jewels!!!

What institution should always be free for anybody?
Every comics festival and especially “el salon del còmic de Barcelona.”

What’s the one thing everyone should know about Barcelona?
A beer at Plaza Reial will cost you more than 5 euros!

What’s the first thing in the morning that you see when you wake up?
I check my e-mails... that sucks!
