¿Por qué no aprender inglés con música, teatro y una transformista? La obra fue creada para personas con conocimiento básico del inglés, y permite participación de la audiencia con discurso y canció. Spain’s Gomez Bueno and New York’s Eric White team up and face off to bring you a double exhibition at Iguapop. Bueno’s vibrant and socially critical pop-art and White’s surrealistic paintings will occupy the same space in El Born for about a month, resulting in an artistic experience of such magnitude that none of us can even fathom the consequences.
Where: Iguapop Gallery @ C/ Comerç, 15
When: February 19, 2009, 20:00 until March 21, 2009

The dancey, yet mellow indie-pop group Islands, formed by two former members of The Unicorns, will be playing at Sidecar for two hours of musical intimacy. Get up close and personal to the band, which has been gaining popularity since it’s formation in 2005, at one of Barcelona’s smallest big venues on February 21st. Instruments present will include the synthesizer, violin, xylophone, saxophone, guitar, and drums. If that’s not a killer combination of sounds, I don’t know what is.
Where: Sidecar @ Plaça reial, 7
When: February 21, 2009, @ 22:30h
Price: 17€ door // 20€ advanced @ Discos Revolver, Discos Castello & Ticktackticket

True to its name, Sala Becool has hosted some pretty stellar acts since it’s birth and, if electro-funk is your thing, this should be another interesting one to add to your agenda. Publicist, made up of artists Ian Svenonius + Linn Youki from the UK and Barcelona, respectively, have a dirty, industrial sound that will keep you dancing until the ecstasy wears off or your glow sticks burn out. Or both.
Where: Pl. Joan Llongueras, 5
When: March 9, 2009 @ 21h
Price: 10€ reserva anticipada / 12€ taquilla

After having started the Modern Lovers in 1970, Jonathan Richman has now been going solo for over 30 years. And his innocent, yet sedated-sounding voice is singing again in the land of his beloved Pablo Picasso. He’ll surely be prepared with plenty of melancholy, occasionally uplifting lyrics to help mend your broken little hearts. Bring some self-pity. Shed a tear or two. Then leave ready to face all those demons you’ve been avoiding for the past few years.
Cuando: March 10, 2009 @ 20:30h
Donde: Sala Apolo [2] @ C/ Nou de la Rambla, 113
Price: 15€ (Anticipada) // 18€ (Taquilla)

From where we sit, dance seems to be making waves in this ciudad recently, largely (though not solely) thanks to La Porta Barcelona who are, in this case, putting on the LP ’09 Dansa O No, a sort of performing arts festival full of dance, action, a splash of theatre, some film and audiovisuals and more. In 5 different venues (the CCCB, La Poderosa, Conservas, San Rafael14 and Mercat de les Flors) they’ve put together a non-stop 17 day programme. And check this: about 80% of the shows are free and only require an email reservation. Only the shows in Mercat de les Flors cost money, money and even in that case, poco of it. There is too much to list here, so you’ll have to visit their site (see below). Then pick a night or two and investigate motion and movement, bodies, play, voice, light, sound, sensory everything...
