Back in the old days / Nomeansno
Nomeansno are brothers Rob and John Wright who mix punk rock, punk jazz, and math rock. Critically acclaimed for their instrumental skills and for their single “Dad” off of Sex Mad, Nomeansno continues to put on a great live show. Their 15-minute cover of Miles Davis’s “Bitches Brew” highlights the ingenuity of the band while showing off their jazz influences. Also known for their black humor, Nomeansno is worth a look.

Clubbing / Jamie xx @ Nitsa
Not merely content with being the production powerhouse behind cult indie-dance act The xx, Jamie ‘xx’ Smith has forged himself a musical identity on his own. As a remixer, he has retooled Gil Scott Heron’s latest album with
much aplomb and his Midas remix touch has graced artists like Adele and Glasser. His recent track “Far Nearer” is a steel drum and submerged-vocal-blessed opus that proves he can cut it solo. Behind the decks, he mixes everything from disco to post-dubstep and everything in between, slicing and splicing vocals with perfect accuracy.

THEATER / GARDENIA
About ten years ago, the famous transvestite nightclub the Bodega Bohemia in Raval closed its doors. Back then, Dutch director Sonia Herman Dolz considered this moment important enough to make a documentary. This play is loosely based on said documentary and has been a huge success at the 2010 Avignon Festival. The cast is made up of old stars of the cross-dressing variety. The play is highly influenced by the actors, who themselves cross the bridge between male and female identity on a daily basis.

CICLE DE CONFERÈNCIES ‘ALTRES BARCELONES’ / LA BARCELONA BRUTA
How many BCNeta vehicle varieties are there? One for normal dirt, one for large pieces of trash, one for bio, one for graffiti, one for tiny streets, one for long and winding streets, one for cleaning the bins themselves, one for… The city has come a long way. People still throw their old washing machines into bio-waste containers, but all in all, Barna has a pretty neat cleaning squad and does its best to motivate us, its citizens, to heart our punts verds and new olipots. There’s much to be thankful for. This little lecture will teach you just how filthy Barna life was a hundred years ago.

This New York duo is already well-known to some of us given their attention at Primavera Sound 2010, where they notched up sensational success. Now, Matt and Kim are finally back in town. Their music meanders between indie-tronic and dance-pop. Their atmospheric live performances seem more like a party than a traditional concert.

If you’re smooth enough to avoid the jailbait in Razz tonight you’ll enjoy a good mix of indie guitars, garage rock and schoolyard chants. THEATER / EL IGNORANTE Y EL DEMENTE // UNTIL 24.04
Sala Muntaner presents “El ignorante y el demente“ by Thomas Bernhard, an Austrian playwright who, despite his great importance in German-speaking cultures, hasn’t attracted much attention in Spain – yet. Directed by Joaquin Candeias, the play reflects on the father-child relationship. With ironic soliloquies, vivid dialogues and striking performances, it’s an excellent example of absurd drama and comedy.

It’s time for a late winter pick-me-up. I don’t know why theaters do this, but it seems like March films always match the weather in their dreariness. Drama, drama, romance, drama...I’m over it. I want to laugh and pretend like I’m frolicking naked in a field full of buttercups and make beer shoot out my nose. más
